Gerhardt Konig, 46, remains in police custody, accused of attempting to kill his wife while hiking on the morning of March 25. Konig, an anesthesiologist from Maui, was on Oahu with his 36-year-old wife. Sources say the two were on vacation, staying in a hotel in Waikiki and March 25 was the wife’s birthday. Honolulu police say around 10:30 that morning, the couple were hiking the Pali Puka Trail when Konig allegedly tried to push his wife off the trail and allegedly bashed her head multiple times with a fist-sized rock. The wife told police Konig tried to inject her with syringes — what was in them, is currently unknown. What is known is that the woman managed to escape.
